Experimental study of the phase relationships in the SiO2-SrO-Al2O3 system
Work description
During my time at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, I collaborated with a PhD student on an experimental study of phase relationships in the SiO2-SrO-Al2O3 system. Our work involved a series of high-temperature experiments and detailed analysis. The process included carefully mixing powders to prepare samples, pressing these into specific shapes, and subjecting them to various temperatures. After heat treatment, we molded and polished the materials for further examination. The final steps involved analyzing the samples using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and plotting the results in a ternary system diagram.
Other areas of responsibility
In addition to the experimental work, I assisted in data collection, analysis, and interpretation. I also contributed to the documentation of our findings, which ultimately led to a publication in a scientific journal.
What I learned in this role:
This experience provided me with valuable insights into materials science research methodologies. I gained hands-on experience with high-temperature experimental techniques, sample preparation, and advanced analytical tools like SEM. The project enhanced my understanding of phase diagrams and ternary systems, crucial concepts in materials science and engineering.
